Often, in our literate culture, we gain information and understanding through the printed page or text rich internet.   But the current generation tends to process things more visually and orally, hence the increasing popularity of iPods (MP3 players),  EBooks, Podcasts, Videocasts, YouTube, Flikr, Facebook, and the list goes on.   Recently, over forty of these orally-oriented students from several Asian nations gathered on the campus of Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary in Manila, Philippines for the Student Leaders Convergence.   One of the Filipino students, Ruel Daquitan,  attended as both a participant and as a photo journalist.   Not only did he learn much through collaboration with other Asian leaders about "making Christlike disciples" in the unique context of this region but he also saw things differently through the lens of his camera.   Ruel shares with us a photo essay that he completed for another course at APNTS, "Introduction to Visual Media" for Professor Kwon Dong Hwan.   Enjoy the visual report and rejoice that our church is raising up so many creative and Godly young people to carry the Gospel to the next generations.

OUT OF MANY ONE, OUT OF ONE MANY
Student leaders from the Philippines (Luzon Nazarene & Visayan Nazarene Bible Colleges), Korea (Korean Nazarene U.), and USA/Japan/Philippines (Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary) gathered for a Nazarene Student Leaders’ Convergence last September 22-23, 2008 at APNTS campus, Philippines. The event aims for connecting Nazarene student leaders for dialogue and enhancement of their leadership skills.

BRIDGING CULTURES
Students from Korea and Philippines share about the ministries being done in their schools.

IRON SHARPENS IRON
An APNTS student shares principles on leadership to other student leaders.

FAITH CONVERGENCE
Student leaders worship and pray together.

A SPOKEN HISTORY
Floyd Cunningham,  APNTS president and professor of History of Christianity, re-enacts the story of A.M. Hills (a seminary president and a graduate of Yale Divinity School) sitting on the floor as he listens to a cowboy preacher- “Bud” Robinson. This is how education and evangelism go along in the Church of the Nazarene. What a story to share to young Nazarene student leaders!

TESTIMONY CONVERGENCE
A student from Korea shares her testimony. Even though her English is not perfect, she still has a testimony to share, and someone to translate for her!

PHOTOS, PHOTOS, PHOTOS
Yes, picture taking is encouraged for leaders!

CHURCH AND TECHNOLOGY
David Phillips, Philippine Field Strategy Coordinator, shares about systems approach to student leadership. He was not able to come in person but his video-recorded message made it possible for him to speak.

STYLE CONVERGENCE
Students wear sandals in the seminar? So what? As long as they converge!

POST-MODERN GROUP PICTURE FRAMING
You may not know all of these young student leaders, but you can pray for them. If you want to involve more, you may contact Luzon Nazarene Bible College, Visayan Nazarene Bible College, Korean Nazarene University, and Asia-Pacific Nazarene Theological Seminary.
