Aussie Nazarenes Seek A Blessing Strategy

The National Board of Australia, representing Nazarenes from each of the three Districts, met in Perth with Field Strategy Coordinator, Bruce Allder and Regional Director, Verne Ward III envisioning the future growth of the Church of the Nazarene.

Times of prayer, inspiration through God’s Word and open discussion brought a sense of a need for reorientation of the Church toward making Christ-like disciples in Australia. A focus on a “blessing strategy” as an evangelism strategy spawned creative ideas along with the need to recognize new and creative ways of touching people’s lives for Jesus.

Additional time of prayerful, open discussion was spent with the District Superintendents as implications of equipping the church for a blessing strategy were developed. Basic questions of “Why we do church” and “how do we equip our people, not only for ministry within the church but also for mission within the world in which we live”, were posed and discussed. A web discussion as a mechanism for continuing conversation has been established.

Each of the District Advisory Boards will gather in September, 2007 in Brisbane to share their prayerful reflections. Pray that a strategy for blessing our nation will be developed, endorsed and implemented as a consequence of these conversations now taking place around the nation. The goal is to create an environment that will give our Aussie Nazarenes permission to courageously and creatively impact their communities with the Gospel, and not be restricted by preconceived ideas of church.
