Korean Nazarene University and Northwest Nazarene University are seeing great results from their two-year old student exchange program. The partnership began in 2007 as NNU Professor, Karen Jones, took three students from Nampa to Cheonan, South Korea to study and participate in cross-cultural opportunities in South Korea. KNU reciprocated this year by sending fifteen of their students to NNU to study business and computer science and experience American culture. The Korean students, led by two KNU business professors, will be at NNU through the end of March 2008.
Dr. Jae-Hwan Kim has said the universities plan to offer more such exchanges in the future. The exchange program helps to fulfill NNU’s new cross-cultural graduation requirements as students encounter new languages, new foods, new cultures, and new friends.
The Korean students say they have received a warm welcome at the NNU campus and have experienced only slight culture shock. Business student Kim Young Jun adds, “Campus life is very comfortable.” The KNU students will also be able to travel throughout the western U.S. including the cities of Seattle and San Francisco.
