Student Leaders Meet For Global Conference At KNU

Delegates convened at Korea Nazarene University from June 6-14, 2007, for a Cross Culture Student Leader Conference (CCSLC).  46 delegates from 30 Nazarene institutions and 22 different countries met for cultural, spiritual, and educational exchange.

KNU hosted the conference and provided a comfortable setting for international fellowship.  Working side-by-side on a compassionate ministries construction project in the community was one of the highlights of the conference.

Leadership workshops were presented by Verne Ward of the Asia-Pacific Regional Office, Gary Hartke of General NYI, Dave Church of GM/Daewoo (Korea), Dr. Bill Patch, former KNU president, and Dr. Abraham Im, president of KNU.

The purpose of the conference was two-fold: to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Korean Revival (1907) and to celebrate the founding of the International Church of the Nazarene (1908).  Students experienced the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Korean culture, a first-time adventure for many.

Following are some quotes about the CCSLC experience:

“We are going back different from the way we came”----Zimbabwe

“I know this is a beginning of another part of me”---Uganda

“What I’ve learned through you will always stay with me, shaping my service as a leader”---England

“We really need such conferences to understand our church more around the world”---Republic of South Africa

Representatives from South America and Central America were provided some Spanish translation since the conference was presented in English. Bi-lingual KNU staff and students volunteered much of their time to host the international students and provide this cultural/educational experience for Nazarene sister-institutions.  The international exchange was a never-to-be-forgotten experience for all involved.
