Thai Gov’t Issues Open Permit To Nazarene Church

Early this year, the government of Thailand has granted for the first time the Bangkok First Church of the Nazarene an open permit to construct a new three story sanctuary and office complex. This will allow construction to continue indefinitely as ministry funds continue to come in. Alabaster funds and additional gifts have been received in recent years, but during the time awaiting the building permit, the fluctuation of the baht threatened the project.

According to Rev. Sawat Hahom, Thai District Superintendent, “This is the first time such an open permit has been granted to a Christian church in Bangkok.”

On Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007 a combined congregation from both Bangkok First Church of the Nazarene and Oikos Church of the Nazarene celebrated a Ground breaking ceremony for the project on property adjacent to the existing Bangkok First Church building.  It will be constructed by Galatians Construction, a Christian construction company based locally.    Rev. Sawat Hahom referenced 1 Peter 2:4-10 as he challenged the Nazarenes present to “invite Christ to be the Cornerstone of our lives” as Christ is the Chief Cornerstone of the Church. Acknowledging the Church being the people of God rather than a physical structure, he added, “The Church is the door to Heaven and the answer for society as we share God’s grace with the community.  With this building our church will lead many to Christ, will help community families in need, and will serve as a center for gospel evangelization.”

With a 21 meter foundation already laid prior to the ceremony, construction is projected to be completed by November, 2007.
