WM Communications Asia-Pacific was privileged to meet Joan while it engaged in lending simple documentation equipment like a microphone and a tripod to "A Place of Hope" ministry based in Pasig, Philippines. Joan is one of the women and children who go day in and day out in a dumpsite in Floodway, Binangonan, Philippines in order to make both ends meet. From sunrise to sunset, even in the heat of the sun, Joan gathers plastic, pieces of cloth, and other junk materials that she could recycle and sell so that she could support her child.

On the other hand, that's a less important part of her presence in that place. The other long-lasting thing that she does is share the gospel of love among these neighbors and "co-workers" in the dumpsite. In coordination with a place of hope ministry, she is engaged with feeding program for both the physical and the spiritual. Joan and the group shares the story of salvation and they pray for them right there on the spot. They share goto lugaw afterwards to the co-workers who keep coming back for more of the tasty dish.

Some 50 women and children stay there for the day with meager snack packs that they eat in the midst of garbage. While the stink of the place has dulled their sense of smell, and the surrounding has strengthened their immune system, they are still people with hope and hunger for a better future in and out of this world. For truly, in whatever situation, there's only One Story, One Hope, One Mission, and One Justice. His name is Jesus... Let's share His Story.
