Summary

World Mission Communications Asia Pacific (WMC-AP) is a ministry of the Church of the Nazarene endeavoring to communicate the message of the gospel to the world “by all means possible.” By resourcing the Church of the Nazarene and other partnering ministries, organizations, and agencies with creative communications media including video, audio, print, and multimedia productions we are seeing this vision becoming a reality.

The Director of New Media is a vital member of the WMC-AP team. They provide direction and supervision for all print and multimedia projects including internet development. The New Media department also is responsible for emerging communication technologies including cellular and mobile web content development. It is through these new forms of communication media that we see the largest growth in our industry. It is also in these areas that we foresee the greatest potential for communication with billions throughout Asia Pacific.

The Director of New Media is a senior management position within the New Media department who reports to the Director of WMC-AP.

The position requires knowledge of project management including client/customer relations, pre-project negotiations, scheduling, resourcing, production management, project presentation, project completion, and delivery.

The ideal candidate will posses strong leadership skills and will have the ability to clearly and effectively communicate with their immediate team along with the larger WMC-AP staff. They should also have a general to advanced knowledge of graphic design, print production, and web development.

Key requirements include:
  • Degree in Business Management/Administration or Graphic Design (or equivalent)
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Minimum 5 years industry work experience

 

Duties

The Director of New Media is responsible for acquiring, guiding, and directing all new media projects within WMC-AP. New Media projects include:

  • Website Development
  • Multimedia Presentations such as PowerPoint
  • New Technology projects such as SMS and mobile internet
  • Animation for video and web
  • Graphic Design
  • Print Media

Each project has it’s own set of requirements, however, it will be the Director of New Media’s responsibility to oversee each new media project from initial concept to delivery. The Director of New Media will manage a small group of designers and developers within the new media department who are involved in project development and implementation. The Director of New Media will work closely with the Director of WMC-AP in establishing project priority, estimation of costs, scheduling and establishing of project milestones, and creative direction for project quality and excellence. The Director of New Media will be responsible for walking each project through the steps of a typical project lifespan.

Typical Project Lifespan:
  • Initial project request
  • Establishment of project requirements and budget constraints
  • Writing of project proposal
  • Review of project proposal with client
  • Writing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
  • Review of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA)
  • Scheduling of project development
  • Management of creative and development staff during production
  • Quality control of project during production
  • Delivery of project according to established milestones and completion requirements
  • Billing in collaboration with the WMC Financial Manager
  • Customer follow up
  • Post project assessment, cost analysis, profitability and reporting
  • Project archiving and filing

The Director of New Media may also be expected to collaborate with the other departments within WMC-AP for organization wide projects and goals.

The Director of New Media will work collaboratively with the Director of WMC-AP for all new media department staff hiring and yearly employee reviews.

The Director of New Media will work collaboratively with the Director of WMC-AP in the writing of yearly departmental budget requests.

 

Qualifications:

To qualify for the Director of New Media position you must meet the following criteria:

  • As part of your 5 year industry work experience you must have at least 1 year experience in a management position.
  • You must have worked at least 1 year in a communications related field.
  • Advanced knowledge and use of computer systems.
  • Must be an active member of a Christian church.
  • Must have the ability to work well with individuals from different cultures.
  • Must have the ability to commute or travel to work in a timely manner.
  • Must not hold any other full-time position.

Special consideration will be given to applicants also possessing training and/or equivalent experience of graphic design and web development. Appropriate software applications include: Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, InDesign, Acrobat Pro, Dreamweaver) HTML, PHP (or ASP), and CSS web development.

 

Evaluation:

The evaluation process will consist of a first interview as requested with the candidate by the Director of WMC-AP.

Candidates progressing with then enter a second review process including self-assessment questionnaire and presentation of previous work experience and portfolio (if available) to appropriate subject matter experts within WMC-AP.
