Why is it always easier to see someone else’s mistakes than it is to see our own? Perhaps today is a good time for some self examination! Hi this is Doug Flemming your fault finding friend on this edition of Take Five. I invite your comments about this program, so we can serve you better. Listen for contact information at the end of today’s broadcast. Take Five is a production of the Church of the Nazarene. I have a personal confession to make. Let’s call it confessions of a critic. I can be a pretty critical guy, especially at home with my wife and children. I have a great wife. She works hard and accomplishes so much around the house, with the kids, and with her outside responsibilities. However, I don’t always notice all the things that she does do. Rather I am quick to see the things that she has NOT done. And unfortunately, I am also quick to say critical words: “why didn’t you finish this?” or “why did you forget to do that?” I begin to sound like a boss instead of a husband. The funny (or sad) thing is, I myself am guilty of the same faults. I am quick to criticize my wife’s lack of organization, or her failure to put something away, or her forgetting an appointment. I say something like, “Angie, if you’d just put things back…or Angie, why don’t you keep a calendar.” It’s easy for me to see these flaws in her life, but to be honest, at work, in my own office, I don’t even live up to these standards. My desk is cluttered. I have trouble finding my files. My appointment book is a mess. Hmmm. There’s something wrong with this picture. How can I criticize someone else, if I myself am guilty of the same thing. Does this sound at all like you? Think about that, examine your own self, as you listen to this song…on Take Five.Today’s Music: Come Back to Love, The Katinas
Music for your heart, on Take Five. I think we’re all quick to judge others. But that’s no excuse. We can change. Instead of jusdging others, lets find fault first with ourselves. Jesus asked, why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye. That’s good advice for me today. Now it’s time for me to go home and apologize to my wife. Friend, how about you?
