Program Notes or Transcript

When people look at the way you handle crisis, what do they see?  Could you be described as a light, in a dark situation?  Hi this is Doug Flemming your host for Take Five, shedding light on a neat story from a book entitled "A Light in the Darkness" by Christin Ditchfield…that will inspire all of us to shine, in any circumstance.  Take Five is a production of the Church of the Nazarene. If the true test of a person’s character is revealed in crisis, then Al Braca past the test.  On the morning of September 11, 2001 Al Braca was at his office in the World Trade Center.  He worked as a corporate bond trader for Cantor Fitzgerald.   Back in 1993, Al had survived the first World Trade Center bombing and had even helped a woman with asthma escape from the building.  This time, Al did not survive, but still helped to rescue 50 of his coworkers; let me explain.  When Al realized that they were all trapped in the building, Al shared the gospel with a group of 50 co-workers and led them in prayer. This news came as no surprise to Al’s wife, Jeannie. For years, she and Al had been praying for Al’s office mates. According to Jeannie, Al’s work environment was a world so out of touch with his Christian values, but he wouldn’t quit. Al was convinced that God wanted him to stay there, to be a light in the darkness. On that fateful day…on September 11, in the midst of the chaos, Al’s co-workers looked to him-and Al delivered!  At the same time, Al too tried to get a phone call through to his family. He asked an MCI operator to contact his family. “Tell them that I love them.” Yes, Al past the test. His last actions involved the two things most important to him God and his family.  Friend, do you shine like Al, in your times of crisis?

Today’s Music: Keep The Candle Burning, Point Of Grace

We live in a world that seems full of chaos, crisis and darkness.  We need a lot more people like Al.  Today, will you recommit yourself, as St. Paul wrote: “become blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you shine like stars in the universe.”
