Program Notes or Transcript

Can a book save your life?  I’ve heard several stories about times when a bullet was stopped by a Bible in a soldiers pocket.  Well, this is one book that can do more than stop speeding bullets.  Stay tuned to Take Five for a humorous look at the power of God’s word.  Hi this is Doug Flemming your host for the next five minutes on the inspiring program, Take Five, brought to you by the Church of the Nazarene.  I’d love to hear from you…please contact me at.

An elderly woman was returning to her home one evening and caught a man in the act of robbing her home. In her fear she yelled a Bible verse, “Stop! Acts 2:38!" (Repent and be baptized, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven.) The burglar stopped in his tracks. The woman calmly called the police and explained what she had done. As the officer cuffed the man to take him in, he asked the burglar, "Why did you just stand there? All the old lady did was yell a scripture verse." "Scripture?" replied the burglar. "She said she had an Ax (chop) and Two 38's! (shot)" (38 caliber pistols).   Now, I’m not sure if this is a true story or not, but it does humorously illustrate that God’s word is a powerful tool to help with every aspect of our lives… After this song, come back and close up with some practical tips on how you can apply the Bible to your life.

Today’s Music: Lord Over All, Sonicflood

Knowing scripture can save your life in more ways than one.
Man does not live on food alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.  God’s word has everything we need for life, love, career, family… His word is our compass and guide. God’s word is also our refuge and shield.  Jesus Christ quoted Scripture to defeat Satan during his time of temptation.  And he tells us to do the same thing, to resist the Devil and he will flee from you. Satan’s greatest power is the power of deceit.  But if we know the word of God, the truth, then the truth will set us free from Satan’s lies.  So, whatever you are going through, whatever you are facing…even if it’s burglars, trust and obey God’s word for your life.
