What do you do when things go bump in the night? Stay tuned to Take Five and I’ll tell you what I do when gripped by fear!  Hi this is Doug Flemming, your fear fighter, today on Take Five, a production of the Church of the Nazarene.  I woke up at three AM a few nights ago, fretting, worrying, stressed about things at work.  Silly things really.  We’re building a new studio and my mind was filled with crazy concerns like rats in the walls, leaky pipes, aircons not working, on and on my mind raced with foolish fears.  So, what did I do to ward off the worries.  I got up, grabbed my bible, and in the middle of the night began reading scripture.  The Lord gave me a great passage in Psalm 62 to get my mind off of senseless anxiety and focused on God.  My soul finds rest in God alone; my salvation comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken. Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken. My salvation and my honor depend on God; he is my mighty rock, my refuge. Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your hearts to him, for God is our refuge.

Friend we all have real and imaginary fears. Often they are things we have no control over.  The Bible is clear about this.  We are not supposed to worry.  Rather we are told to cast all our cares on God…for He cares for us.  Paul writes, though chained in prison, facing death “Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer with thanksgiving, present your requests to God, and the peace of God will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.”  Every time angels appeared in Scripture, and often when Jesus appeared to His disciples, the first thing they said was, “Do not be afraid.”  God says the same thing to you today, no matter what you are facing. So, friend next time things go bump in the night…pour out your heart to God, put your trust in Him, then rest in the knowledge that He will fight even your worst fears for you.
