Let me test your knowledge of science today on Take Five. What are the three elements required for fire to burn?  Hi this is Doug Flemming, now that we’ve lit your flame of curiosity, I invite you stay tuned to Take Five for answers and inspirational music.  Take Five is a production of the Church of the Nazarene. My family loves to camp.  And a vital part of camping is the camp fire. My four kids and I work together collecting wood and paper, stacking it neatly inside our fire ring.  Then as we light the fire to roast hot dogs, I nearly always quiz my kids….what does a fire need to burn?  By now, they have memorized the answer and can quickly repeat, “fire needs, fuel, heat and oxygen.”   This is practical information to know.  If you ever want to light a fire and aren’t having success, you can check to see which of the three elements is missing.  Or if your caught in a fire, all you have to do is remove one of the elements and the fire will go out.  Now, what does this have to do with raising our children and passing on Godly values to them?  Well, in order to have a good camp fire or barbeque, you must fan the flame to get it to burn brightly.  In the same way, we must fan the spiritual flames in our kids lives to get them to burn brightly.  Our kids will not automatically come to know the Lord or understand His laws for their lives.  They need us to fan the spiritual flames.  Our kids won’t automatically find their place in life and blossom overnight.  They need help, guidance and instruction. They need opportunities to learn and grow.  It’s up to us to fan into flame their unique gifts and talents.  To encourage positive, unselfish, loving and godly behavior.  How bright is your flame burning today?

Today’s Music: Refine Me, Jennifer Knapp

In his letter to Timothy, Paul did not waste any time getting to the point of what he knew Timothy needed to hear.  Fan into flame the gift of God which is in you…so do not be ashamed to testify about our Lord.  Those words came right at the beginning of the letter, because Paul understood that every day counts.  Today is the day, parents, for us to become better, more committed faith trainers.  Today is the day for our children to grow closer to God. So remember it’s never too late to start.
