Program Notes or Transcript

Are you one of these trendy people who keeps up with the latest fashions and consumer items?  If so do these things truly make you happy? We’ll focus on this question today on Take Five.  Hello, Doug Flemming on a fine day, with Take Five, produced by the Church of the Nazarene. I encourage you to use some of your latest technology to send me a text or email.  My email address is radio@wmc-ap.org.

I love what new technology can do to enhance daily life. However, I think we’ve become too dependent upon our electronic gadgets for fulfillment. Advertisers make us feel that we’re behind the times (even obsolete) unless we have the latest model, style, version or upgrade. Well, I gave in to those ideas and bought a new Pentium notebook computer. But after my hard drive crashed I was feeling a bit frustrated with technology and began to complain about the seriousness of my problems. Then I heard a related story about the late Mother Theresa.  She had refused to accept a donated computer unless she could sell it and give the money to the poor. After hearing her response… my computer problems don’t seem so important, and our so-called needs like computers, cell phones don’t seems so urgent.  Friend, what do you focus on for contentment today?

Today’s Music: You Are My All in All, Nicole Nordeman

Maybe our real need is to have more saints like Mother Theresa who find joy in sharing… and maybe I need a crashing computer more often to remind me of the real important things in life. Friend make sure your contentment is found in Christ not in consumer goods or computers.  Join me again next time on Take Five… until then. May God bless you and keep you in perfect contentment.
