Program Notes or Transcript

Do you suffer from asthma or some other respiratory illness? If so, then you might appreciate oxygen more than the rest of us. Hi this is Doug Flemming with your blast of fresh air, today on Take Five.  Take Five is refreshing music and inspiring talk, all brought to you by the Church of the Nazarene and this station.  A friend of mine is in critical condition at the hospital, on life support, with a constant supply of oxygen to keep him alive.  At this time, every breath is precious to him.  Another friend of mine suffers from asthma, so she carries an air puffer with her at all times, and she has a nebulizer at home.  On a few occasions my friend has had severe asthma attacks.  She begins to turn blue and her body stiffens as she literally fights to get air into her lungs.  It’s a very frightening experience for her.  So, my friend really appreciates clean, fresh air…and the ability to breathe freely.  She doesn’t take oxygen for granted.  But friend there is something that is just as important as oxygen, something we desperately need. And most people take it for granted.  When was the last time you took a deep breath from God’s Word?

Today’s Music: Breathe, The Katinas & Kara

God’s word is like breath.  We need it to survive spiritually.  And we need a constant supply of it to be strong, to have spiritual strength and wisdom, to fight off deceit and temptation.  Jesus said as He rejected Satan’s temptations - "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Paul wrote: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”   And that’s why Moses encouraged His people, “Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful. Friend, don’t take God’s word for granted.  Read it, memorize it, and obey it….just like breathing.
