Have you ever felt like you were drowning? Overcome by the pressures of life? Well, today on Take Five we want to encourage you to hold on… don’t give up hope. Help is on the way.
A good day
to you. Doug Flemming here your helpful and hopeful host for the program Take
Five, finding hope in science. I used to work in laboratory where we did a wide
variety of research, including animal studies. In one of those experiments,
scientists used a rat to test a theory of psychology. One rat was placed in a
tub of water. The rat swam as long as he
could, but after forty-five minutes, the rat could tread water no longer and he
sank to his death. A second rat was placed in the same tub of water, but as the
rat reached the point of exhaustion, the scientist lifted him out of the water.
After a few moments of rest, the second rat was returned to the water, but this
time with renewed energy, he swarm for two hours. Why the drastic difference?
Well, after being rescued, the second rat could stay afloat because he now had
hope that he would soon be rescued again. What a difference a little hope can
make in our perspective on life. Psychologists conclude that people, who live
without hope, will not survive very long. Friend, if you feel like you’re treading
water today, about to go under, don’t give up. There is hope in Christ. He’s
just a prayer away.
Today’s
Music: Hold On, Wes King
Great music on Take Five. That song is encouraging us to “Hold on to hope.” Friend, I don’t know what you are going through right now, what problems or burdens you face. But I can guarantee there are people waiting and wanting to help you. So don’t give up. If you don’t already have a good local church, a pastor or a counselor to help, I invite you to write to us at Take Five, and we’ll do our best to offer you friendship and good advice. Until next time, May God bless you and keep you holding on to HOPE !
