But, Dad, that’s not fair! He got more than me …” Wisdom from the mouth of babes…the child is right…life is not fair.  But does God intend for it to stay that way, or is there something YOU could do today to make life a little more just for someone around you?  Hi this is Doug Flemming, your justice of the peace today on Take Five….five minutes of inspiration and music…compliments of the Church of the Nazarene.  A good friend of mine works in a local factory that makes name brand clothing for export. She regularly works 10 hours a day, six days a week to reach her quota. The clothing sells for as high as ninety dollars per piece in foreign markets…and yet for all her hard work to profit the company, my friend and her coworkers do not even receive minimum wage! My heart breaks for my friend, as she struggles to care for her five children on that kind of salary.  So in her case, life is not fair.  Her factory is not being fair to its employees.  Not only is this not fair…it is in just…it is wrong…and something should be done to change these in-just, unfair labor practices!  To that factory owner and his business partners and to all those in positions of power, I say this to you today, from God’s word “Woe to him who builds his kingdom by unrighteousness, his properties by injustice, making his countrymen work for nothing, not paying them for their labor.”  Those are sobering words from the prophet Jeremiah.  Perhaps you are in a position of ownership or management today.  If so, I urge you today to evaluate your treatment of your employees.  As Isaiah said, “learn to do right! Seek justice, encourage the oppressed. Defend the cause of the fatherless, plead the case of the widow.”

Today’s Music: My Hope, Rebecca St. James

Yes, it is true life is often not fair.  But wherever you have the power to make life better for someone else, then by all means do it.  First of all, ask God to bring His justice.  Secondly, speak up against injustice.  Talk to your church leaders and government officials and urge them to make changes.  And finally, take care of people like my friend, make sure they have enough to eat and are able to cloth and educate their children.  Do your part to make life just and fair for someone else today.
