If you want to communicate your love to someone, what’s the best way to say, “I love you?” Well, no matter what language you speak, when it comes to love, actions always speak louder than words. Hi this is Doug Flemming, speaking words of kindness today on Take Five. Take Five comes to your compliments of the Church of the Nazarene and this station. Every day I have the privilege of spending these five minutes with you and so I’d like to get to know you better. Please send me an email to radio@wmc-ap.org… As parents, one of the toughest habits to teach our four kids is kindness. They are good kids and generally nice to each other, but often we have to remind them: “be nice to your brother!” “Share with your sister.” “Please say your sorry.” They usually respond well, apologize and then make up. And we then repeat to them that if they’re really sorry they won’t do it again. Or if they really love each other they’ll show it. But these lessons are not just for kids. Each of us needs a reminder that true love is love in action. And that is one definition of kindness. Kindness is love in action. Author Mark Twain said, "Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can read." So if you really want someone to know your love, then you must show your love.Today’s Music: Live Your Love, The Katinas
Like my children, we adults often forget to put our love into action. In fact, in Jesus’ day, he saw such a lack of love that he had to re-introduce the ideas to his disciples as a “A new command to Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” Christ’s love was love in action. St. John reminds us: “Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.” What does this mean for us today? How can we show our love? Through genuine acts of kindness. Author Leo Buscaglia wrote, “the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all have the potential to turn a life around." Friend, why don’t you choose to turn your world around. Let Christ’s love live through you in both your words and deeds.
