We had an electrical black out the other night and from the midst of our dark living room, a little voice spoke very wise words that gave us a new perspective on darkness. Hi this is Doug Flemming, your host for Take Five with good news to brighten even your darkest hour. Take Five is a program of the Church of the Nazarene. Okay, back to my family’s dilemma. The power went out and we were plunged into darkness. And suddenly my litter girl said, “it’s okay Dad, as long as we have each other and Jesus, there’s no darkness here.” Wow, wisdom from the mouth of babes. Her words immediately reminded me of story that I found on www.Autoillustrator.com, contributed by Darren Ethier. There is a cave which lived under the ground, as caves have the habit of doing. It had spent its life in darkness. One day, it heard a voice calling to it: "Come up into the light; come and see the sunshine. (warm, friendly voice)" The cave retorted: (cold, reverbed voice) "I don’t know what you mean; there isn’t anything but darkness."But, finally the cave ventured forth and was surprised to see light everywhere. Looking up to the sun, Cave said: "Come with me and see the darkness." The sun asked: "What is the darkness?"
The cave replied: "Come and see." And so one day the sun accepted the invitation. As it entered the cave it said: "Now show me your darkness." But there was no darkness! The obvious illustration of this cute story is this…where the son is, there is no darkness. Think about that truth while you listen to this tune.
Today’s Music: Take Me out of the Dark, Gary Valenciano
How do we apply this truth to our lives? We all go through times of darkness, despair, or depression. But if you have a personal relationship with the true and living God, the light of the world, even your darkest times can be bearable…victorious. My prayer for you is that you would experience the reality expressed by Samuel and David:
“You, O LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light…because even the darkness will not be dark to you; the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to you.” Friend walk in the light.
