What can you accomplish in one minute? A lot if it’s one minute spent with God. Hi this is Doug Flemming inviting you to spend five minutes with me on Take Five, a short break with music and message, brought to you by the Church of the Nazarene. In W.W.II there was an advisor to Winston Churchill who organized a group of people to join the war. They did not go to the front lines, they did not shoot guns or drop bombs. These volunteer soldiers fought the battle on their knees. They would pause every day at a prescribed time for one minute to collectively pray for England, its people and world peace. Those were dark days in Europe and it looked at times like Nazi Germany would conquer the entire continent. Well, God heard those one-minute prayers and spared England. There are now groups of people organizing in other countries to do the same. These are once again dark, violent, uncertain times in our world…so much terrorism, fighting, economic injustice. Christians around the world need to unite in prayer for God’s peace to be accomplished in Iraq, the middle east and other places. Perhaps there is such a prayer group in your area. If not, maybe God is using me to inspire you to start your own prayer group. I know the Southern Baptist Convention is launching a prayer campaign in September called “Pray for the Philippines.” Maybe God is calling you to organize a similar prayer campaign in your area. God desires to respond to the prayers of his people, even to our one minute prayers.Today’s Music: If My People Pray, AVALON
The book of James says, “The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.” Friend I am not talking about a prayer ritual or a routine. I am talking about a commitment to seeking God’s will for our world, and submitting yourself to obediently following his will. Notice the verse says “righteous man.” So first of all, get your self right with God, then join others in praying for the needs in your world. In so doing, our prayers both long and short, will make a powerful difference.
