Does prayer actually work? That’s a fair question, especially if your currently waiting for some answers to your prayers. Hi, this is Doug Flemming your Take Five prayer partner here, for five minutes of music and inspirational thought, courtesy of the Church of the Nazarene. And today, we’re talking about prayer on Take Five.Today’s Music: Send Out a Prayer, Anointed
We know that praying and worshipping together with fellow believers is good for the spirit, but scientists now say it is also good for your mind and body. Researchers say those who attend religious services and pray consistently are physically and mentally healthier than those who do not. Dr. Harold Koenig says, “Church related activity may prevent illness… by a direct effect, using prayer or Scripture reading as coping behavior…”
Well, I agree with those doctors to a certain extent. You see prayer is much more than a coping behavior; it is the lifeline that connects us to our creator. Some friends of ours have an 8 year old daughter who is currently in a coma, after a terrible car accident. And those parents are depending on prayer to sustain the life of their daughter and to help them through this tragic experience. It’s no wonder that David could write such beautiful poetry, like Psalm 17:6; “I call on You, O God, for you will answer me; give ear to me and hear my prayer. Show the wonder of your great love… save those who take refuge in you.”
So, friend, if you’re not one who prays, you may want to begin today… not just because the Doctor says it’s good for you, but because it is a simple fact: Prayer Works…because Our God answers Prayer.
