Wouldn’t it be nice to have a measuring device that would indicate when we’ve done enough good deeds, or when we’ve completed our jobs? Well, sorry, there’s no alarm that will sound when we’ve finished our responsibilities, but there are some standards to guide us in how to live. Hi this is Doug Flemming your partner for the next five minutes on Take Five, with great music and inspirational thoughts. Take Five is brought to you by the Church of the Nazarene and this station. I have a printer at home that speaks to me. When I begin a print project it says: “Printing Started”! When it finishes the job it says: “Printing Complete!” I wish life were like that. I wish an alarm would sound when we’ve done enough, but unfortunately life is not that simple. Sometimes we can spend time and energy trying to help someone, or trying to solve some problem. We may feel like we’ve done all we can do to help, or given all we have to give, and yet all of our efforts and our sacrifice seems to accomplish nothing. Perhaps that other person or that situation fails to change or improve and we feel like giving up. If only we knew when we had done enough to be “complete.” My friend, don’t worry. Your good deeds and your giving are NOT in vain. Think about that as you listen to….Today’s Music: Committed To The Call, Tom Shumate
Yes, if we had an alarm, like my printer, we would know exactly when to stop doing or when to stop giving…and we could move on to the next person or the next problem. But since there’s no alarm, we normally measure success by visible results (changed life, resolved conflict, improved relationship). But in those situations where there are no tangible results, it’s easy to become discouraged and give up. But, friend, the good news for you today is this: From the words of St. Paul to the Galatians, Do not get fatigued in doing good, for at the proper time you will see results if you do not give up; therefore, every time you get the chance, work for the benefit of all, starting with the people closest to you.
