Program Notes or Transcript

If you were the top executive of a “Fortune 500” company, what would you do with all that power and money?  Hi, this is Doug Flemming your daily companion on Take Five and I invite you to join me for the next five minutes as we discover what one executive is doing with his money and power.  Take Five is a production of the Church of the Nazarene.   From a recent article on “charismanews.com” I learned that there are some Godly men in high places in the business world.  In fact, one such man probably influences your life in more ways than you realize.  If you ever use a computer, then this man likely has had something to do with some major parts on your machine.  Let me introduce you to Pat Gelsinger, chief technology officer for the company, Intel. For the next few editions of Take Five I want to encourage and challenge you with a little closer look at Mr. Gelsinger’s testimony. Pat Gelsinger climbed the corporate ladder as an executive at Intel, but he soon realized that his priorities did not compute. Ten years ago, Gelsinger was promoted to group vice president, the youngest person to hold that title in the history of the company. With 78,000 employees worldwide and company revenues exceeding $26 billion, Intel is the leading producer of computer chips in the world.  But in his early 30s, he began to feel aimless and without any goals because in many ways he had achieved most of his dreams. Finally, he arrived at a life-changing conclusion.  After this song, I will share this conclusion that changed his life.

Today’s Music: All That I Need, Point of Grace

At the age of 30, having accomplished nearly everything a person could desire in the business world, Gelsinger realized that he had a problem.  He was successful on the job, but not at home.  He admitted a lack of balance between his home life and his work life. And it was then that he made this commitment: "I will be a Christian husband, family man and then a businessman. I will use every resource God provides me to carry out His work on earth."  Friend, if you were in his position, could you say the same?  Come back next time on Take Five to learn how Gelsinger carries this out on a practical level.
