Who is your boss? Do you spend your time and energy pleasing him?  Well your response to this question depends largely on your relationship with your boss.  Hi this is Doug Flemming, your business consultant today on Take Five.  Take Five is a production of the Church of the Nazarene and this station.  My children have an allowance from doing their household chores.  When they receive their money they often want to spend it right away on toys or candy.  And as their boss and business consultant I often advise them to save their money or to spend it more wisely on important things.  And when my kids complain, I always appeal to our higher boss, God.  I ask them, what does God say about money?  My kids groan, but usually agree to listen.  So, friend, I address the same question to you.  Who is your boss?  Do you spend your time and resources to please him?  One of the best tests of our willingness to obey God is our money.  Richard Foster in his book, Money, Sex and Power asks a few pointed and personal questions that I’d like to ask you today.  Do you buy things on the basis of the call of God, or because you have the money? Do you buy a new item because you can afford it, or because God instructed your to buy it?  If money determines what you do or do not do, then money is your boss.  If God dertermines what you do or do not do, then God is your boss.  Your money might say, “You have enough to buy that,” but God might say, “I don’t want you to have it.”  Now, who will you obey?

Today’s Music: Be In Your Blessing, E. O’Donnell

Friend, I realize that many of you listening to day might be struggling just to put food on the table or to send your kids to school.  You many not have much money to spend at all.  But whether we are financially rich or poor, God wants us to trust HIM with our finances.  He says, “do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?”  If God is boss of your life, then trust Him to be your provider, and don’t be afraid to obey Him when He asks you to give.
