Ahh, the sound of a refreshing drink on a hot day… and nothing quenches our thirst better than cool clean water… and today on Take Five we’ll look at how water and words are related...Greetings my friend, this is Doug Flemming, providing refreshing talk and cool music for the next five minutes on Take Five, brought to you by the Church of the Nazarene. I saw a headline that read, “Water is a deadly drink…for the poor.” You may not consider yourself to be poor, but is your drinking water safe? Many of us don’t consider clean, running water a luxury, but potable source of water are becoming more scarce worldwide. Especially as our environment fluctuates between the El Ninos and La Ninas. My family’s water comes from a deep well that is proven to be safe, but some of our neighbors are not so blessed. Their well has been contaminated by waste products. They replaced their pipes with clean ones and disinfected their holding tanks, but the water remained undrinkable because the supply itself was polluted. This reminds me on an ancient proverb that says, “The heart is a well, the mouth a bucket.” If our hearts are polluted, then our thoughts and words will also be impure, contaminating those around us. Negative words and gossip are like pollution that destroys. That’s why Saint Paul says our speech should give grace to those who hear. Your kind, pleasant and positive words are like a refreshing glass of cool, clean water.
Today’s Music: Let My Words Be Few, Phillips, Craig and Dean
Friends, next time you take a drink of clean water, first of all, be thankful that your water supply is pure, and secondly be reminded that your heart and your words should also be pure. Determine today that your words will be a source of purity not pollution. Until next time… May God bless you and keep your water and your words clean and refreshing.
